The Center to Look 1st is a Pennsylvania nonprofit corporation, founded by mothers who were alarmed to discover that the organizations entrusted with their children were failing to meet even the minimum requirements to prevent and detect wrongful acts.
They — and the many parents who have since joined them — recognized a truth backed by research: the more likely issues are to be reported, the less likely they are to occur. They built Look 1st around that principle.
The Center to Look 1st is dedicated to these parents and their cause.
At Look1st.org, anyone can Find the Seal for any organization in the world — instantly verifying whether the Look 1st Signals System is in place and whether an organization is meeting its responsibilities to protect the people it serves.
If the Seal is there, protection is active. If it isn’t, you’ll know that too — and you can send a private message encouraging them to get the protection everyone deserves.
The Look 1st Signals System is protective by its very presence. When people know signals will be detected, behavior changes — making wrongful acts less likely and conditions safer.
The Center also works to protect vulnerable populations — including children and older adults — by providing systems and resources to prevent and detect abuse, and by facilitating mandatory reporting.
