The Center to Look 1st is a Pennsylvania nonprofit corporation, founded by mothers who were alarmed to discover that the organizations entrusted with their children were failing to meet even the minimum requirements to prevent and detect criminal acts. They—and the many parents who have since joined them—share a vision:
-
One trusted place to look first
- Before to entrusting loved ones, personal time, or support to an organization, verify that it meets its duty-of-care obligations.
- For anyone, about anything, at any time, to report what must be known.
- Clarity about what it takes to protect—especially those we love, as well as the organizations we rely on.
- Effective communication between people and organizations.
The Center to Look 1st is dedicated to these US and Canadian parents and their cause.
At Look1st.org, anyone can “Look 1st for the Seal” to verify that organizations are meeting their responsibilities to safeguard those they serve and to encourage greater engagement. In addition, the Center works to protect vulnerable populations—including children and older adults—by providing systems and resources to prevent and detect abuse, and by facilitating mandatory reporting.
